Desmond Pringle talks about new CD "Fidelity"

Known as the Balladeer of Gospel, Desmond Pringle is releasing a new CD, entitled "Fidelity" which marks the fourth in his career. Pringle's first single off the project, "Hope is Born" is a timely message of victory and personal endowment. "The world is experiencing an unprecedented time of change - financial stability is challenged, natural disasters have displaced families worldwide and our nation has embarked on the most historic presidential election of our time. In the midst of these sometimes challenging moments in our lives, there is a source of continual hope."

Pringle says, "We've already won. We the people on an individual basis have been given a personal allotment of precisely what's necessary to not only survive but thrive." According to Desmond Pringle his new project, "Fidelity," is a reflection of God's faithfulness in every aspect of our life.

Buy It or Burn It: Ledisi

Ledisi's latest album, "It's Christmas" is her second release for the Verve label. Ledisi fuses the soulful with blends of sounds of the holidays from New Orleans and Oakland, California--the two cities in which she grew up. Her CD is one of traditional gospel "re-imagined with savory funk-fried rhythms", while Christmas classics like "Silent Night" evoke the jazz feel.

Last year her debut CD "Lost & Found" was received well and earned her two Grammy nominations, including one for best new artist. When asked "Why a Christmas album?", Ledisi replied, "I kind of consider it a pit stop to the next album. What you hear is what it was like for me [in the studio]. Everything was recorded organically. It was recording the old way. The guests just stopped through."

Some of those guests that stopped through on this album were gospel veteran Richard Smallwood, jazz-pop star George Duke and blues-man Keb Mo. With full 70's-style band, Ledisi's Chaka Khan approach enhances the self-penned "Be There for Christmas" to make a standout cut on the album.

Although this Verve Label debut did not set the charts ablaze, it is very close. Her first single "Alright" still receives spins on urban adult radio. Ledisi tours steadily. And boy do I know it as I recently ran into her in Los Angeles when I was there for the BET Celebration of Gospel taping.

"Every album I have done, it takes about a year for people to catch on," Ledisi says.

Well I am hoping that it does not take you that long to catch on this time. In the spirit of Christmas pick up Ledisi's "It's Christmas" and give it as a stocking stuffer.

BET Raises the Praise at the 9th Annual Celebration of Gospel

(Los Angeles)-- With a 24 piece orchestra led by musical director Ray Chew, BET's Celebration of Gospel will bring you performances and spoken word segments by some of the greatest in both mainstream and gospel.

Hosted by Radio Personality and Comedian, Steve Harvey, Celebration of Gospel will air January 25th, 2009. Let me tell you, he is off the chain! I hope that you get to catch some of the out takes on BET.com because Steve Harvey is a pure fool.

Taking the stage is Oscar winning Louis Gossett Jr., Dr. Bobby Jones along with the Nashville Super Choir, Smokie Norful, Heather Headley, Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers, Trinitee 5:7, among others. And directly from The United Kingdom Muyiwa & Riversongz performed all during this night.

The program honored Pastor Shirley Caesar, who's been in the Gospel Industry for over 40 years. She performed as only she could, taking over the stage and commanding the audience with "Cornerstone".

The Dynamic Kirk Franklin surprised the audience with his physical flexibility as he was joined by the great Rance Allen, Isaac Carree and Lowell Pye in "Lil Boy"

Vickie Winans threw down as she took everyone in with "Rainbow"

Mary Mary performed and then surprise, surprise! Rapper LL Cool J graced the stage. Only LL Cool J would come to a Gospel show and "make it rain"-(threw money in the audience) as they performed "We Gonna Make It". This performance is a must see.

Bishop Hezekiah Walker and LFC reminded us why were there by taking us to church with his latest single "Souled Out" along with R&B legend DJ Rogers and Marvin Sapp.

Still feeling the spirit, Pastor Donnie McClurkin struggled between takes to get out of the spirit long enough to sing.

Fortunately, he took us on in, accompanied by songstress Karen Clark-Sheard. Their performance had the audience feeling like they were in church forreal!

I hope they show the reprise with Pastor Shirley Caesar, Dorinda Clark-Cole and Karen Clark-Sheard freestyling the chorus of the song, "Wait on the Lord"

With PAJAM standing like proud parents, 21:03 performed three times, paving the way also for group member Jor'el to debut as the next host of 106&Park Generation Gospel, also debuting on BET in January, which will feature Gospel Music Videos catered to the younger audience.

How Sweet the Sound Picks Winner and the Stars Come Out to Play

Verizon's How Sweet the Sound concluded last week. The overall winner of the competition was Acme Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago, Illinois. The runner-up was Burning Bush International Ministries and the V-Cast People's Choice Winner was Atlanta West Pentacostal Church.

Donnie McClurkin's mourns the loss of his sister

Fab! Fans we are sad to report that Olivia McClurkin passed away on tuesday at the age of 50, after a long battle with cancer for nine years. Olivia was the second eldest McClurkin sibling and has contributed to two McClurkin Project release and has also sang background for Whitney Houston, Andrae Crouch and others.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, however the family requests that in lieu of flowers that persons make donations to Perfecting Faith Church in New York.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright: A Weapon of Mass Destruction?

President-Elect Barack Obama's former Pastor is in the news yet again, but this time he is defending himself against the press' usage of his sermons to ruin the campaign of Barack Obama. They used me as a "weapon of mass destruction," said Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright at a forum about race and religion. He acknowledged that the intent for the press was to use what he said in the pulpit out of context to derail Obama's campaign for the presidency.

At Northwestern University last night, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright delivered a "State of the Black Union" address as a part of the University's Diversity Week program. His address entitled, "Redeeming & Reclaiming our Community," was heard by an audience of 200 where he told the audience that the clip of him thundering "God damn America" that dominated cable television was an effort in trying to convey the anger and desire for vengeance that people felt after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

"Their intention was to use me as a weapon of mass destruction, to tear down that man's integrity," said Wright, former pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. In a question and answer session with the audience, Wright said he didn't believe Obama shared his opinions publicized on the videos.

Of course, since the publicizing of the videos, the relationship between President-Elect Obama and Rev. Wright has been strained.

We are less than 80 Electoral Votes away from electing the very first African American (and half white) President of the United States of America. It is exciting!!! A never before seen moment as all races: Black, White, Latino, Asian and the blend of all... come together and sit before the screen to see the greatest moments in Democracy....

For once I feel like my vote counted for something as Obama won the States of Maryland, Washington D.C. and Illinois (places I call home)... time will only tell and history is definitely in the making.

"Yes We Can?" more like "Yes We Did" but really it was the hand of God that made it possible for a poor Black man to open the door of hope for us all. Not to mention the Democrats have taken over the House and the Senate... nothing but God.

I sit here, In Busboys and Poets, surrounded by the laughter of my friends and family from near and far, so that one day we can tell our children the story of how we voted for the first Black President.

Some prayed all day and all night... and as the polls close, we sit amongst the very excited crowd at Busboys and Poets in Washington, DC. Lines are rapped around the block trying to get into the restaurant/bookstore aptly named for Paul Lawrence Dunbar who used to be a busboy and well known for being a poet.

We get in by the skin of our teeth as we are now seated directly on the steps in front of the jumbo tron that are projecting the election results as they are being reported on CNN. It is exciting watching history literally in the making...

As of right now, Obama is up with 77 electoral votes to John McCain's 34 electoral votes with Obama leading the next four competitions to report including West Virginia, Ohio and New Hampshire.

Hey Fab! Family.... I know that I have much to catch you up on... I know there are follow-ups that so many are you are waiting on, but as you know I stay every where so just bear with me. This week it was the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Pastors & Ministry Workers Conference that kept me away for so long...

It was great visiting Bishop Joseph Walker's church in Nashville, TN, where International Presiding Bishop Paul Morton hosted such a grand event for the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. Bishop Kenneth Ulmer tore down the house, while Dave Ramsey taught with excellence on how we can keep our house and how we can get debt free even in this economy. Bishop Vashti McKenzie preached on how to get Kingdom Focused and Bishop Paul Morton closed the conference entitled, "Manifesting the Kingdom." It was excellent all around!

Not to mention it was so great seeing so many of my Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship Brothers and Sisters... Until next time, stay fab! Check out GospelFab! Exposed in the meantime on Afro.com and...

Barack Obama lends support to singer Jennifer Hudson

While family and friends are mourning the tragic deaths of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew, support from all around continue to pour in for this singer. Senator Barack Obama, who's hometown is also Chicago, issued a statement on Saturday following the news of the tragedy.

"Michelle and I were absolutely heartbroken to learn about this unimaginable tragedy and we want Jennifer to know that she is in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time," said the Illinois Senator. Prior to the confirmation of the death of her nephew, Senator Obama also prayed for the swift and safe return of her young nephew.

It was Jennifer Hudson that sang the national anthem at the Democratic National Convention in August after a personal request by the Obama camp. "She has done so much for the campaign," a campaign insider said to an interviewer at People Magazine and says that "Everyone was just so shocked and saddened."

Also condolences poured in from American Idol judge Randy Jackson who expressed his disbelief of what authorities are calling a double homicide, now triple homicide--"my heart and soul goes out to her and the rest of her family. Such a tragedy-- I can't even believe that it's possible. Paula Abdul and I were just talking about it yesterday and it's just so sad." He says that he has left her a couple of messages and that he is trying to give her whatever he can. " My God. The world is an ugly place right now," concludes Jackson.

Dreamgirls costar Anika Noni Rose stated, "I know that Jennifer was extremely close to her mother and brother and I pray that the family will find healing and peace. My thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer, Julia and Julian in this awful time."

Tragedy Strikes Hudson Family

Our prayers go out to Singer and Actress Jennifer Hudson and he family. At a time in which Jennifer was just touring the country sharing with the world her latest blessings post-oscar winning, the release of a new movie, "The Secret life of Bees", the release of her first solo album and the word that it is about to go Gold, the fact that she recently got engaged to a man who just recently asked her mom's hand in marriage the old fashioned way, Hudson is now in the news because of an unbelievable family tragedy.

When the news reports came pouring in, it was so unbelievable it seemed almost unreal. The story just would bring tears to the eyes of even the strongest of persons who heard what happened within a short period of time within the Southside Chicago home of Hudson. Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson and brother Jason Hudson, were found shot to death in their home on Friday. It has just been confirmed by Jennifer and her sister at the medical examiners office that the body of the young boy found stuffed between the seats of a missing SUV, covered in plastic with a gunshot wound to the back of the head, is that of Jennifer's 7 year old Nephew, Julian King.

Police have taken a person of interest into custody and is said to be Jennifer Hudson's Brother-in-law, William Balfour, who has a record for Attempted Murder and just recently was forced from his home that he shared with his estranged wife by the court upon the separation of the couple.

Our hearts and prayers do go out to the family as the investigation continues, and we will be bringing you the latest as a press conference is scheduled to take place very shortly.

Al Sharpton in Baltimore

GospelFab! Readers, I like some of you, I thought to myself, "I heard he is a Baptist Preacher, but am I going to sneakingly hear a political message?" Let me just say, boy was I wrong!

Rev. Al Sharpton came to Empowerment Temple AME Church again (that's right, the first visit was when Empowerment Temple was still worshipping at Walbrook Senior High School in Baltimore), yesterday.

As he stepped to the pulpit with his Bible in tow, the congregation stood to their feet with boisterous applause to welcome the most controversial mouth piece for the African American community. Let me just say, he surprised me. Simply put, Rev. Shapton truly is a preacher and he can preach!

He merged humor and simple statements to illuminate the word and at the same time in true Sharpton fashion, relate it to the world in which we live today. Don't get me wrong, he stands there speaking with wisdom. It's not like he gave some lengthy eloquent exegesis, but sometimes it just takes a little to get a strong positive message. This particular sermon was to the Men of the church as Sharpton was invited to preach for Men's day.

After reading the responses to the announcement of this event, I figured I would post on GospelFab.com the interview that I had with Pastor Jamal Bryant about this event. Saints, Let’s talk about Sex! : Erotica Author Zane to appear at Empowerment Temple AME Church

Noted-Author Zane is on the New York Times Bestsellers list for her books entitled, Dear G Spot, Addicted, The Sex Chronicles, The Sisters of APF, The Heat Seekers and four other titles including several more slated for publication and already deemed as hopefuls for bestsellers as well. Zane is a Washington, DC native who has gained mass-cultural and cross-cultural appeal through the publication of her modern day Erotica.

Beginning in 2000, Zane has since published and written several books, selling hundreds of thousands of copies turning her business into a multi-million dollar empire. With Zane dominating the Essence’s best-seller list along with the likes of Toni Morrison and Terry McMillan, ever since her first book was published and with a quarter of a million hits monthly on her website, the reality is more than just a few persons are reading her novels and it’s safe to say that some of her readers may attend a local church here and there.

To address the taboo topic of sex, local Pastor, Rev. Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant has reached out to this renowned author to come and shed light on the subject. Zane’s appearance will conclude this month’s Men’s Season Series at Empowerment Temple AME Church entitled, “How to Love a Black Man.”

This invitation of Zane to appear in the church has caused such a stir on both sides of the aisle. “One of the biggest, silent taboos within the Black Church has been historically [the topic of sex],” says Pastor Bryant. “We don’t deal head on with [the topic of] AIDS, STDs, teen pregnancy, homosexuality, incest, infidelity or adultery. Pastoring a church of 10,000 young adults, I see all of it every day [in the] pews and in my office,” continues Bryant.

Zane, who is the most highly read fictional author in the black community, who has a following within and without the walls of the Church, is also the daughter of an elementary school teacher and a world-renowned theologian, who hid her success as an author of Erotica for years due to the subject matter because her father was a preacher and she wasn’t sure how he would respond. This preacher’s daughter is ready to join forces with Pastor Bryant as they present “How to Love a Black Man~ Biblically” on next Tuesday, October 28, 2008, beginning at 7:30 PM at Empowerment Temple AME Church located at 4217 Primrose Avenue in Baltimore.

Zane has taken a once considered taboo topic and turned it into a conversation piece and a way for couples to open up to each other. She recognizes that the topic of intimacy for women is the most uncomfortable topic and believes that she can liberate women sexually and it will trickle into other aspects of their lives.

I can not mention Jonathan Nelson's success without highlighting the homegrown talent on this one either. Baltimore-based vocalists known as Purpose and the musical talents of Amos Saint Jean, who co-wrote "Drench my Heart", Justin Savage and Kenneth Shelton who co-produced the album along with Jonathan Nelson, Mike Reid on drums, and Adam Johnson plus various others who contributed and supported.

Special shouts out to my homeboy and part-time correspondent, Gospel Recording Artist Terrell Hunt for being nominated for "Best New Artist". (I definitely have to show love to Amos Saint Jean for producing this album and the various DMV musicians that put their blood, sweat and tears into this one. Also congrats to Levitical Worship who sings background for Terrell Hunt)

And just for recording his album in Baltimore, Youthful Praise featuring JJ. Hairston got two nominations for their album "Exalted...Live in Baltimore"!

Yolanda Adams mourns the loss of her Mother

Fab! Fans this weekend while most of the DMV area was celebrating Homecoming celebrations at the various Universities throughout the area, local Gospel Artist, Yolanda Adams, was at her mother, Carolyn Adams' homegoing services held at The Church Without Walls in Houston, Texas.

As a youth, Yolanda Adams listened to all genres of music because of her mother. Her mother was a pianist and educator who exposed her to R&B, jazz and classical genres.

Like her mother, Carolyn Jean Adams, Yolanda became a teacher. However, music took Yolanda's talent beyond the classroom and she became an award-winning Gospel artist.

Carolyn Adams went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2008. A memorial service was held in her honor on October 18, 2008 led by Pastor Ralph Douglass West. Please keep the Adams' family in your prayers.

We haven't really seen much of Tye since the release of his latest CD. I feel like for the first time we don't see much or hear much of Tye like we did in the past. I feel like "Victory" was overplayed from his last project but this release has been so quiet.

I've always been a Tye fan so I was excited to see him on Front Row Live... and as I sat there watching, I couldn't tell if it was because I was tired from church or if it was the fact that I was shocked to see G.A. so downsized, but Tye what's going on?? During her appearance on The View this week to promote her debut self-titled album, the newly engaged Jennifer Hudson ( to a reality show star who poured his heart out on "I Love New York")wore Precious Times' signature "I believe" necklace.

Precious Times made headlines when earlier this year when Sherri Shepherd was featured on the cover of its spring issue, where she took heat for revealing that she had multiple abortions.

Jennifer Hudson's Debut CD: It's been getting mixed reviews all over the country. I would say that Hudson's debut album was most anticipated following her Oscar winning performance. Unfortunately, I have mixed feelings about her CD. The playlist (the order of the songs on the CDs) have me the most confused. If you try to listen to the CD all the way through it gets a little boring. There is however one Gospel song on her CD but its the most random re-make of "Jesus Promised me a home over There"...

I'm going to need for J. Hud to take more risks vocally. She is playing it too safe on her album.

I say... burn this one. (OK.. buy the single) Sorry J. Hud.

Darwin Hobbs is "Free"... from Childhood Sexual Abuse

Darwin Hobbs!!!, that's right, he's a GospelFab! fav' because I simply love that song "He's Able" (recorded on Deitrick Haddon presents Voices of Unity) has recently released his latest CD entitled "Free" on his own Liaison Records in partnership with Tyscot. Darwin is dubbed the "Luther Vandross of Gospel" and recently decided to talk openly about his recent breakthrough and being set-"free" from Childhood Sexual Abuse.

To tell or not tell? is the complex question that victims of childhood sexual abuse that usually robs them of their voices. The complexity is more compounded when the violator is someone that is deemed safe and trustworthy, such as a clergy member, a family friend, a coach or a relative-- and especially if the victim is a male.

Hobbs, says unfortunately, sometimes those abused within the Body of Christ remain quiet because "there is a lack of integrity and people think you're going to tell their business," therefore many people suffer in silence.

Darwin Hobbs is indeed "Free" he proclaims, as he reveals that being molested at an early age is the underlying cause of his obesity and his bad attitude. The perpetrator was his step father who fondled him on numerous occasions. If he said anything his mother would die of a heart attack, he was told. The manipulative lie plagued his head until the age of 39, when the death of the pedophile not only freed the Ohio native to write the title cut on his new project but also finally confess the haunting secret that he had kept from his mother for most of his life.

Hobbs said "I've never recorded an album as a free person. I've always been somehow bound.. before this time and season in my life." By God's intervention, Hobbs escaped the bounds of being a Gay Christian. He denies dabbling in homosexual lifestyle but says he wrestled with identity crises because of the incest-like misconduct inflicted upon him.

His supportive wife and life-long confidant Traci had known about his internal conflicts all along but after telling his mom his life began to change drastically, "I've been apologizing to people more than ever--I just wasn't a good person to be around."..."Even as those inward layers of pain are peeled away I'm able to deal with some other outward manifestations of pain like me dealing with obesity and now the weight is starting to come off," both literally and figuratively shares Darwin. He is now 42 pounds lighter. His goal is to break the bonds of shame associated with sexual abuse to begin the healing process.

I'm Dreaming of "A Coko Christmas"

Hey Fab! Fans, among the various Christmas albums that are coming out this year, singer Cheryl "Coko" Clemmons, formerly of R&B group SWV, will be releasing her sophomore Gospel CD October 16th.

This album is going to be a compilation of previously inked songs by her former group SWV like "This Christmas" and " Oh Holy Night" also some holiday inspired songs like "Holy" and "Grateful" from her debut gospel CD. Also guest starring on the album is singer George Huff singing "Give Love on Christmas Day".

This CD is also serving as an editorial piece to explain her life as wife and mother and the times and transition from her singing with SWV to singing Gospel. Coko is currently in the studio finishing her upcoming studio gospel CD set to be released in 2009.

Paul Morton's Son Sets His Own Standard

Last night, Gypsy Soul and Media Minds brought out the true lovers of soul and R&B to Teavolve. If you weren't in the 'vibe' (whether that vibe be neo-soul, R&B or Blues), Teavolve (1401 Aliceanna) put you there. A boutique tea shop, I felt an extra piece of soul as soon as I walked in the doors.

Sitting there with an undersized (on purpose I think, I mean he is dubbed 'The Fly Nerd') bright yellow hoodie, I recognized him from my sister's CD that I stole a while ago. PJ Morton, son of Bishop Paul Morton Sr. and I shot the breeze on how easy it is to distinguish himself from his namesake, how the lovers in his life influence his music and sheds light on the early days of Janelle Monae:

Gospel Today Cover causes controversy

Gospel Today, published by Teresa Hairston, is a magazine that covers many aspects of the Christian faith that usually operates under the radar of mainstream magazines.

Lifeway Christian Bookstore has pulled the magazine off its shelves and has put underneath the counter because of this cover pictured above. Now, for some like me, you do not see an issue with this cover. But, for some and apparently Lifeway Christian Bookstore, there is a problem with this cover because of their views on the roles of women in the church.

Lifeway is affliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the thought of a female pastor conflicts with the church's doctrine.

Hairston appeared on the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" with CNN Correspondent Roland Martin to talk about the controversy. Martin challenged the listeners to "give Lifeway Christian Bookstores hell" over the matter. Hairston countered with: "I'd rather give them heaven!"

Jeremiah Wright caught in Affair

That's right GospelFab! Readers, He's in the news again! This time instead of ruining a political campaign of his former member, apparently, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright was caught in affair.

According to The New York Post, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright had been having an affair with Rev. Dr. Freddie Haynes, III's executive assistant, Elizabeth Payne, a woman 30 years his junior. When the affair got out, she lost her job at Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas and her husband left her. Payne never revealed how and when the affair began, but fellow church-goers say that the affair was made known in the spring.

In April, Payne organized a series of appearances by Wright. She was seen by his side day and night. She admitted that it was all true, adding that she filed a wrongful-dismissal claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to get her job.

Payne's husband, Fred Payne, said that he learned of the affair in late February when he discovered e-mails that were sent between his wife and Wright. "There must have been about 80 of them, back and forth," he said. " Wright said things like he was going to leave his wife for Elizabeth."

Wright has been married to his second wife, Ramah, for more than 20 years. Dr. Wright reportedly wooed Ramah away from her first husband when the couple came to marriage counseling at Trinity United Church of Christ.

Mr. and Mrs. Payne have only been married since 2006. Mrs. Payne has been banished by Haynes and the congregation at Friendship-West.

Richard Smallwood Banned from Gospel Heritage Month Celebration

Gospel Legend Richard Smallwood was conveniently "disinvited" from participating in the Gospel Heritage Month Celebration at The White House under the Bush Administration. "Speaking from the Democratic National Convention in Denver, where Smallwood was an invited performer, the artist bestows with candor both his disdain for the Bush Administration and the incident which left him without a spot on what has become a celebrated event amongst the music elite and The White House.

Mr. Smallwood received an invitation back in June from The White House to perform at their Gospel Heritage Month Celebration. Smallwood's assistant, Kelvin Leach, received a call from The White House stating that because he performed at the retirement celebration of Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright in March of this year, The White House thought it best that he not participate in the Gospel Heritage Month Celebration and the invitation was withdrawn.

Smallwood replied, stating that "so many of us are tired of politics as usual. The crisis that our country is in is because of this [George W. Bush] Administration. The hypocrisy, the untruths have put a blotch on the very principals this country was founded upon." When asked if he would accept if the Bush Administration had a change of heart, the artist replied, "no way." Smallwood had previously been invited but declined due to what he calls the atrocities of the Administration on the lives of African Americans, especially the middle and lower class. He had only accepted because of the historic nature of this event.

Tyler Perry's The Marriage Counselor

Hey GospelFab! Fans, I know it seems like I am one of Tyler Perry's biggest promoters right now, but it just so happens that Tyler Perry's The Marriage Counselor is in town (Washington, DC) through Sunday. And since it was my birthday, thanks to the drummer in the play, Terrell Sass, we got to sit in the Orchestra Section, right in front!!! Thanks for hooking GospelFab! girl up!!!

So, was it worth it?? Yes, Yes, and a hundred times yes!!! I thought that by now, Mr. Perry would be recycling old themes and plots to create this predictable turn of events, but when I tell you the story has so many twists that even when you see things are about to happen, where the story goes next still catches you off guard.

Besides the lead stars who were excellent, played by Tamar Davis and Tony Grant, the one who TRULY stole the show with his perfect timing and punch lines that had the entire audience laughing and crying at the same time was Mr. Palmer Williams. If you don't see the play for any other reason but to see him, I suggest you do it! Trust me, it will be worth your money.

Kudos again Mr. Perry... hey, let me know if you have seen this one?

I’m so sorry I didn’t write right after the movie opened but I needed totake a minute and catch my breath.

I gotta tell you, a press tour can be really rough, especially dealingwith a lot of people who don’t get it, and don’t get what I’m doing here. I refuse to deal in the negative though--I refuse.

So, let’s look at the real deal and let me tell you what kind of blessingthis is. Out of all of the people who wrote in saying that they were giventickets to the wrong movie and had to argue to get them to reprint ticketsto preys; out of all of the movies that opened this past weekend with 800to 1,000 more screens then I had; out of all of the critics who said howawful the movie is, out of all the bootleg copies on the streets; out ofall of my people in Texas dealing with the devastation of the hurricane;out of all that is going on in this economy; out of all the foolishnessI’ve been dealing with since the movie opened; YOU STILL WENT, YOU STILLMADE “PREYS” NUMBER 2, YOU STILL CROWDED INTO THE SAME THEATERS, AND ITHANK GOD FOR YOU!

It is my prayer that not only did the movie make you laugh and move you towant to enjoy every day on this earth but it is also my prayer that everydime you’ve spent to invest in me that it comes back to you one millionfold. Thank you.I wrote this movie because I was going through some things, I had familymembers preying on me. I had been betrayed. People that I have done morefor then than they have done to help themselves broke my heart and I wasso hurt by how ugly people could be. I was at a place where I didn’t trustanybody, I thought everybody was after something, and I thought nobody wassincere. I was becoming cynical and very unhappy. Lots of people look atthe outside and think all is well, but sometimes it isn’t. So, I startedwriting this movie after I heard a song called I HOPE YOU DANCE. I hadGladys Knight re-record it for the end of the movie. You should hear it. It talks about no matter what happens, just dance. Just dance.

All of this to say to you, life is a gift and a blessing. Don’t let peoplechange you. No matter what happens be wiser the next time. But, don’t letit change you. There may be people in your life that have hurt you, butdon’t make the next person who has the best intentions come along and yourun them away because you think they’re going to do what the last persondid to you. Don’t be afraid. In life you can’t live in fear of whatpeople will say or do. If you lose love or a friend, then maybe you neverhad it.THE FAMILY THAT PREYS is still in theaters. Tonéx to appear in Dreamgirls

Grammy, Stellar and Dove-award winning recording artist and performer, will be making his stage play debut appearing in the stage play Dreamgirls produced by the San Diego Musical Theatre (SDMT). The multi-award winning artist, songwriter and producer will portray the troubled character, James "Thunder" Early.

Dreamgirls returns to the stage at the San Diego Musical Theatre and will run from September 12- September 28, 2008 at the Lyceum Theatre in downtown San Diego. Hey Fab! Fans... I know some of you have been thinking to yourself, "Where is she? Where's my Fab news?" Sorry y'all, its my birthday weekend!!! (singing) HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! My Birthday is this Sunday September 14, 2008. As you can imagine, my family, my boyfriend (Man of God) and many friends want to celebrate with me.

So, as I take some time off for family and friends to celebrate with me, let me suggest some things that you can do in honor of my birthday!:

First, GO SEE Tyler Perry's The Family that Preys this weekend. Its both Tyler and I's Birthday weekend. I am all for supporting African Americans doing big things, so in order for it to be a hit we must go see it on opening weekend. You know that your girl will be doing that this weekend, and I will be back to tell you what I thought about it monday.

Stellar Awards Discrepancies Exposed

So check this out GospelFab! Readers, you know that I dig and dig until I bring you exclusives and information that you can't get anywhere else...

So, GospelFab! sources shared with me that the "discrepancies" that the Stellar Awards Nominating Committee speak of happen to actually be that some artist felt as if they were left off the initial ballot that felt as if they deserved to be on it. For instance, Byron Cage and Bruce Parham were not on the first ballot and now miraculously discrepancies have allowed their names to appear on the revised First Ballot.

What makes it worst, now everyone has to re-vote for these altered categories... great job Stellar Awards. Hope to keep bringing you more, GospelFab! Girl : )

When Psalmists and Minstrels Meet was a 3-day Conference that took place September 4-6, 2008 in Biloxi, MS. Hosted by Donald Godbolt, it featured Monique Walker, Dr. Yvonne Capehart, Everette McBee, Blanche McAllister, Courtney Franklin, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Lamar Campbell, Alvin Campbell, and many more including DC's own and GospelFab! correspondent for this event Minister Terrell Hunt and Levitical Worship.

I travelled to Biloxi, MS to participate in the "When Psalmists and Minstrels Meet" Conference and I have brought back all the happenings and even a little bit of the drama with acts being ushered off stage... so read on.

On day one of this event, Monique Walker ~ former wife of Pastor Hezekiah Walker and whose voice could be heard leading "Second Chance", taught a powerful morning session and in the evening Dr. Yvonne Capehart preached up a storm.

The absolutely, amazingly anointed Blanche McAllister, one of Donald Lawrence's Tri City Singers leads on the most recent track "These Nails", blessed the audience by singing Walter Hawkins' "Thank You" and "Holy" by Lisa McClendon

Saxophonist Wynuco Washington walked throughout the audience ministering a medley of well-known gospel songs.

Day two consisted of Everette McBee and Courtney Franklin, who taught a powerful morning session on worship and its importance to our ministry as psalmists and minstrels and "singing a song in a strange land."

Evangelist Dorinda Clark-Cole preached "Say It Until You See It!"

Houston's Lamar Campbell and DC's own Alvin Campbell ministered. In spite of Alvin Campbell and his group being cut off and directed off the stage "due to time restraints" in the middle of their third song, they really ministered. Not to mention that he flew in 15 people to Biloxi, MS for two and half songs.... WOW.. That's a "Baller!"

Day Three: The "Conclusion of the Matter as conference host, Donald Godbolt put it. It was a concert hosted by one of the craziest people who is walking the face of the earth, Courtney Franklin. It featured myself, Terrell Hunt and Levitical Worship, Shonda English, Wynuco Washington, Jamel Strong, some of "Gospel's Royalty" as Courtney put it~ Monique Walker, Pastor Eric J. Brown and other locals from the Biloxi area.

Stellar Awards Discrepancies Hold Up Voting for First Round Ballot

Breaking News: GospelFab! is bringing you the scoop. So apparently there has been a number of discrepancies in the voting process for The Stellar Awards.

The Nominating Committee is revising the First Stellar Awards Ballot. SAGMA members will be allowed to re-vote on the revised categories only. The voting will be online only and be available only through September 16, 2008. Members are restricted to voting one-time using their SAGMA membership number. The results of the re-voting will determine the entries that are going to move forward to be Stellar Award Nominees.

The Categories that have not been affected will be counted according to the previously defined rules.

The Categories that have been affected are: New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Choir of the Year. We will bring to you an updated ballot as soon as we get word, so stay tuned!

"It was the fairest solution to remedy the discrepancies," says the Nominating Committee. So those of you who are members of SAGMA or if you want to join SAGMA so that you can vote. Click here and follow the links for SAGMA online voting.

Capital City Football Classic Alumni Concert with Shirley Caesar and Yolanda Adams

September Marks Gospel Heritage Month

The month of September has been officially named Gospel Music Heritage Month, thanks to members of Congress like Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee and Sen. Patrick Leahy. Along with The Recording Academy, The Gospel Music Channel and The Gospel Music Workshop of America, a resolution was passed in June to celebrate the contribution that gospel music has had within American culture and was publicly unveiled at the U.S. Capitol earlier this summer.

So with it being Gospel Music Heritage Month, what are you going to do to celebrate? There are plenty of Concerts or Events going on this month and GospelFab! will be bringing you all of them that are taking place all over the country. Recap| First Sundays with ChristianHangSuite.com at Silver Shadows

So on Sunday September 7th, 2008 ChristianHangSuite.com did what they usually do~they hosted a First Sundays Event. This month was dedicated to a Comedy Showcase with a few musical guests. One in particular that I told you to come out and support was of course GospelFab! fav' Amos Saint Jean.

Unfortunately this time, GospelFab! girl was not blown away by this particular event. Due to a stabbing at H2O nightclub this month, H2O had to subsequently close its doors, forcing ChristianHangSuite.com to find another venue on the spot to host their First Sundays event. So out of the Washington, DC waterfront to the Suburbs of Columbia, MD, Silver Shadows happened to be the venue this month. With the change of venue also came a change in crowd. What started off as a majority twenty-something crowd at these Christian Networking Events has now turned into majority older adults coming for free food and free entertainment.

Now usually, GospelFab! girl is not one to diss, so please do not take this as one at all. However, I was perplexed by the variety of entertainment and was all the more confused at the lack luster performances.

You had an older group called 1Accord, who came and performed Quartet music and closing with "Order My Steps", accompanied by dance steps that could give the Temptations a run for their money. Following that you had a trio girl group called Immeasurable, who dressed as if they were 15 years old, but they were definitely in their late twenty's, singing a Israel and New Breed Showcase. They did however manage to fit their single in, but not without dissing 104.1FM for apparently not playing their single.

But I hate to say it, 104.1 FM does play their single. I guess they hadn't heard it yet since they are on the road with The UniverSoul Circus. However, I do give them an honorable mention. These girls danced as hard as they can, pumping themselves up with an energy level of 20! however they were singing at the volume of 5. I couldn't hear nothing they were singing, but oddly I could hear every word that was spoken into the mic. Don't be shy ladies, sing out! Amos Saint Jean is the only one who had the crowd on their feet. They were literally clapping and singing along with him as he belted out his single "New Season".

After the song showcase, came on the comedians. Now maybe I was mistaken but I thought it was going to be Christian Comedy. It ended up being more like clean joke telling. Host Howard G, from all those "Senate Auto Insurance Commercials" even took as far as introducing himself but managed to get a few laughs from the crowd between acts and during his routine.

Now, I know this may not sound like it was pleasant, but I have known their First Sundays events to be better than that. And so, still continue to support them. These are great young men trying to expand the Christian Networking Scene. ChristianHangSuite.com did exactly what they sought out to do. They gathered like-minded Christians into a setting for an event that was suitable for Sunday. There was a pause in the program for persons to get up and network and shop from the various vendors and artists that had product.

So I say, "Keep up the good work!" I know the Founder/CEO is looking for a new spot to host, and so perhaps with a new place will come a new crowd and we shall see what ChristianHangSuite.com has in store.

Terrell Hunt | Showcase and Interview

Washington, DC metro native, Terrell Hunt is blazing trails as a newcomer and a potential Stellar Award nominee with buzz created from his first project, entitled "Awesome." His hit single, "This is the Day" has been playing all over the radio earning him a place on the first round ballot for The Stellar Awards.

Hosting a showcase for those who supported his project, Terrell Hunt sat down with GospelFab! to tell us all about being a new artist in the Gospel Industry.

Terrell Hunt's CD "Awesome" was a journey that forged out a CD of Praise and Worship that has blessed and touched so many lives. When one goes from singing in the church to hearing your songs of worship on the radio it can change your life. "I was eating Popeye's Chicken, driving in my car when I first heard my song on the radio. It was like listening to a CD but I knew that I was not listening to one. It was amazing!," Hunt says of hearing himself on the radio for the first time.

Terrell turned what would be a rehearsal for his performance for "Saints in the Park" at Six Flags theme park in Maryland that took place this past weekend, into a showcase for some area supporters to aid in the promotion of joining SAGMA and pushing a campaign to vote for the ballot for the Stellar Awards. But no matter what the program, the spirit has a way of doing its own thing. As Terrell Hunt and Levitical Worship sang the spirit moved the program out of the way.

Rev. Timothy Wright | Church Mortgage to be paid by Pastor John P. Kee

Pastor John P. Kee, Pastor of New Life Fellowship Center and best known to us for his Gospel Music, is also known for helping communities with his generous heart.

Two weeks ago, Pastor Kee announced that he would be supporting Rev. Timothy Wright and the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of Brooklyn by paying the mortgage until he returns. As you can imagine the church has been under financial strain and stress since the near-fatal accident of the legendary Gospel singer.

He encourages all singers and fans to continue to show their support and assist with the medical bills of this great man.

GospelFab! readers, in case you didn't already hear, Pastor Marvin Sapp's CD has been certified Gold! (in Gospel Music, that is like going triple platinum). You have seen him every where! I was even fortunate to catch up with him this summer.

His single, "Never would've Made It" landed in the number one position on the Urban AC Chart. It is the first Gospel Song to hit the top of the Urban AC since Yolanda Adams' "Open My Heart". It has spent a remarkable 42 weeks as the number one song in Gospel radio and is the top selling ring-tone and ring-back. "Thirsty" has been the number one CD on the Gospel sales charts for a total of 27 weeks.

Rev. Timothy Wright | Photo Recap: Road to Recovery

GospelFab! readers, we have been following the fatal car accident of Rev. Timothy Wright since July 4, 2008 when his wife and grandson was killed by being hit head on with a drunk driver. The "Godfather of Gospel" still can not eat, walk or breathe on his own.

Even after all of this, he asks from his hospital room, "Can I go to church?"

Rev. Wright is the founder of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Crown Heights, NJ and suffered a spinal cord injury, a broken jaw, broken ribs and multiple fractures within his legs.

He is now residing at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, but unfortunately his veterans insurance does not cover his $4,033 a-day treatment that he needs.

His family has since joined with Rev. Al Sharpton in asking for donations to continue Rev. Wright's rehabilitation.

The estimated cost of rehabilitation is about half a million dollars. Rev. Wright has recently regained feeling in his shoulders and is expected to be taken off the respirator within six weeks.

A family friend, Laurie Schneider said that she is stunned by Wright's strength and devotion to his church despite his heartbreaking ordeal. "He was asking to put a tent on the parking lot, so he can hold his services outside here," Schneider added. "That's all he's praying for- to give a service.

Terrell Hunt nominated for Stellar Award: New Artist of the Year

DC Unity Movement | Photo Recap

Well if you missed it last Friday night, then sorry for you because it was off the hook!!! Just in case you want to make the next one here is some of what you missed. Host, Aaron Spears greets the crowd (and provides more than enough snacks to last the night) and calls musicians out from the crowd. Musicians are then invited to freestyle on a song he selects. This week was a little different because Aaron invited a few friends to come and be featured.

We were in there wall to wall to hear the hottest musicians and singers from the Washington DC Metropolitan Area.

Featured were Gideon Band, Amos Saint Jean and Ndelible. Literally, everyone I knew who played an instrument had come from near and far to shed with each other.

(ladies if you are looking for a man who is a musician, trust me, they are at DC Unity!)

Pastor Andre Butler to have his own show on BET

With the growing statistics of number of adults who are do not attend church (rising from 39 million to 75 million persons since 1991) Pastor Andre Butler, Pastor of Faith Christian Center in Smyrna, Georgia and CEO of Andre Butler Ministries is exploring new methods and upgrading traditional tactics to reach those who typically do not go to church.

Pastor Butler has a "gathering" on University campuses, Facebook and Myspace. "We are trying different ways to break through with our Christian message to reach the unchurched, especially young adults. If their space is Myspace, then we want to be there with a relevant message. If their primary communication tool is Facebook or mobile messaging, we delivering messages there too. It's important to reach people where they are," says the 31 year old Pastor.

This Friday, August 8th, Andre Butler Ministries will debut its weekly half-hour program, "Your Future Now," on BET networks across the country at 6:30 a.m. est.

Pastor Butler has also started having church services in various theaters across the Atlanta Metro area. Ultimately, the church will have 12 such campuses throughout Atlanta from Buckhead to East Point.

Obama Praying with the Bishops of the AME Church |Behind the Scenes

You may have seen this picture in your email boxes at work and at home! Some may have gotten in a forward or just happened to see it on someone's wallpaper. It is being sent around the world, under the heading, "You won't see this on Fox!"... well matter of fact, you sure won't because Fox has not contacted me about using my photo. Yes, indeed, its GospelFab! that brought this photo to you first... How? You may ask... because it was yours truly, GospelFab! Girl that took this photo. And so, I have decided to re-post the photo with more behind the scenes story of what took place in this moment.

It was about 2 p.m. in the afternoon of July 6, 2008. Senator Barack Obama had just arrived at the rear entrance of the America's Center in St. Louis, MO preparing to make a speech before an audience of over 12,000 persons who were in attendance at the AME Church's 48th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference. He was greeted by Bishop Phillip R. Cousin, Sr., Bishop John R. Bryant, Bishop McKinley Young and Bishop Vashti McKenzie at the the rear entry, where hugs and kind words of adoration were exchanged.

We walked along with the Senator and staff along the corridor until we reached the holding room, where Senator Obama in true kind fashion greeted every single person that was in the room with a handshake and a smile. Each paused to tell them how great they thought he was and even some broke into tears as they watched history unfold before their very eyes.

Then, as we were beginning to recess into the afternoon business session, Bishop McKenzie calls all in the room into order, and instructs Bishop Bryant to pray over Senator Obama.

All joined together in one accord, laying hands on the Senator as Bishop Bryant prayed. He prayed that God would guide his steps and protect him as he traveled along the way. He prayed that his body be strengthened and in solidarity affirmed with the angels that they watch over the Senator as history was in the making.

With a resounding AMEN! The Bishops were escorted out of the room. The only one left in the holding room was now the Senator as he prepared his thoughts and went over his introduction one last time. A sense of peace washed over his face as he stood at the foot of the steps. He climbed the stairs to enter the stage, with resounding cheers applauding his arrival...." I present to you Senator Barack Obama!!!", Bishop Cousin exclaimed.

Bishop Albert Jamison, Sr. | What's new?

GospelFab! readers, keeping with our preparation for the GMWA (Gospel Music Workshop of America) we had to speak to none other than the Board of Directors of the GMWA, Bishop Albert Jamison, Sr.

Bishop Jamison was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GMWA, Inc. in 1996.

The GMWA was founded by the late great Reverend James Cleveland and is the the world's premiere independent gospel music convention. Along with his current duties, Bishop Jamison also serves as the State Representative of the Eastern New York Chapter of the GMWA.

His most recent project, Bishop Albert Jamison presents the New York Mass Choir, "Show Yourself Mighty" is definitely sweeping the nation with a message of encouragement. I had the opportunity to talk with Bishop Jamison, who will also be on the Fall season of Bobby Jones Gospel.

GospelFab! Girl: What would you like to say to your listeners through your latest project?

Bishop Jamison: We just wanted to encourage the people in these times. God is indeed a deliverer but He is the greatest at delivering us in the midst of the storm. Show yourself mighty, its a song that will encourage people. God is going to show himself mighty better in a storm.

GFG: Why is it important for you to come to Bobby Jones Gospel?

BJ: It is important for the world to see us together. He will be with us in Nashville. This is history making. If I read the scriptures correctly this is our time.

GFG: What makes you GospelFab-ulous?

BJ: In this day and age as prophets and priests, we are obligated to give and produce words of encouragement. That is what our mission is.

Elder William Murphy, III | What's New?

GospelFab! readers, with GMWA (Gospel Music Workshop of America) only one week away, we are going to bring you interviews everyday with some of your favorite Gospel Artists. First up, "Mr. Praise is What I do!" himself, Elder William Murphy, III.

Elder Murphy, is one of my big brothers in the ministry. He has recorded some of the most profound praise and worship songs and one in particular is still a favorite of all time, Praise is What I do, recorded with Shekinah Glory Ministries.

Elder Murphy will be on this season of Bobby Jones Gospel and this time he is back as an artist, singer and Pastor. He is the Senior Pastor of The Dream Center Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Here is just a bit of our conversation behind the scenes of Bobby Jones Gospel taping.

GospelFab! Girl: So, what do you remember about your first time on Bobby Jones' Gospel?

William Murphy III: I remember the first time I was on Bobby Jones' Gospel. I had just relocated to Atlanta and was ministering there at a local church. A woman by the name of Tia Smith happened to see me ministering and told that people at BET that I had to be on... the rest was history. And if I could say one thing to Bobby Jones, it would be "Thanks for allowing this son of a 15 year-old girl to make his dreams come true!"

GFG: So tell me about your latest CD and what you would like your listeners to get out of it?

WM3: I don't want my people to ever have to endure again. God is waiting. It is a sound that he is waiting to hear. It is a sound that gives him an indication that we are ready to move on. It is about the people learning to wait on the presence of God. That recording was not just about my voice, but it was about all the voices that were there. We miss the fact that there is something about our voice that God is waiting to hear. I want them to understand that their worship is waiting to happen...

GFG: So William, what's next?

WM3: Well I am working on a project with the worship leader at my church, NaTasha Cobbs, so look out for her! She is an amazing worshipper, and an incredible woman. She makes it hard for me to preach on Sunday and that is ok. [laughs] I am also releasing a mass choir record. It is going to be straight up sunday morning and praise teams. Can you believe I am releasing a choir CD?

GFG: [laughs] That's not you at all.

WM3: I know! But I also feel as if its my life long assignment to provide racial and denominational reconciliation. I want to cause people to come from all groups. That sentiment is reflected on the We are One record, which means then the We Are One Tour is coming to a city near you!. There is going to be Latino, Whites, Blacks, all getting in the presence of God.

GFG: So tell me about your church?

WM3: The Dream Center is booming. We are getting ready to break ground on a 30,000 sq ft. facility for the Dream Center.

GFG: Will Do! Just two more questions, who is on your iPod?

WM3: Well for starters, every sunday I sing Jonathan Nelson's "Drench My Heart" and "Increase my Capacity"[he starts singing it], those two songs right there always take me in!

GFG: ... and what makes you GospelFab-ulous?

WM3: Keep on a look out because there is so much going on with William Murphy. Thanks to Bobby Jones who has opened the door for me and not only that, held it open.

Rev. Timothy Wright still holding on

GospelFab! readers it has been four weeks since we first brought to you the story of Rev. Timothy Wright who was hit head on in a fatal car accident in Danville, Pennsylvania on July 4th, which resulted in killing his wife, his grandson and the driver of the other vehicle.

Rev. Wright is still in critical condition. Relatives say that they told the 61-year old gospel singer about his wife's death just this past monday. They are hoping to be able to move him to a rehabilitation center next week.
